Al-Maydan: The Siege of Names

The attack on Al-Maydan began with artillery bombardment — a show of force intended to terrorise and disorient — before armed units moved into the village carrying something that distinguished this assault from random violence: lists of names. Prepared name lists transform a massacre into something more specific and more chilling. They mean prior intelligence gathering. Targets identified in advance. The executions that followed were not heat-of-battle killings but the cold fulfilment of a plan. 10 civilians were killed, their names apparently known to their killers before they arrived. The specific targeting of local community leaders — teachers, elders, figures of social authority — was a calculated decapitation of the village's ability to organise or recover. Without its leaders, without infrastructure (destroyed in parallel with the killings), the community could not hold. The remaining population was forced into permanent exile. Al-Maydan was dismantled not through blind violence but through carefully directed destruction of every element that allowed it to exist.
